Alhamdolilah it’s halal to get all dolled-up in front of Mahrams!
What a relief!
It’s so difficult not to dress up on ‘Eid for women (esp. younger women). Allah SWT is so Merciful that He SWT has allowed us to get all ‘dolled-up’ in front of our fathers, brothers, and other sisters in Islam (of course we mustn’t be extravagant). He SWT could’ve told us that we mustn’t dress up except in front of the husband. What would those do who weren’t married?
Believe it or not, looking good beyond the realm of moderate decency is a hawa. It is a desire with which women are tested with. They just can’t not care about their looks at some point in their lives. He SWT could’ve told us that we mustn’t even dress up in front of anyone and must control this desire. That would’ve been extremely hard.
I know I despised make-up 2-3 years ago.
Allah SWT knows best what happened to me in these 3 years but it has become tough to not pick up that eye-liner/mascara. Astaghfirullah! But successful so far alhamdolilah! May Allah SWT protect us all from Shayateen from humans and jinn.Ameen.
Allah SWT has said:
“And tell the believing women…not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof …” [Surat an-Noor, 24:31]
In the Exegesis in Al-Kashshaf (adopted from Fiqh of Muslim Family pp. 13, by Hasan Ayyoub), Az-Zamaksshari(R) says,
”A woman’s ornament is her jewelry and kohl. Thus, what appears of such ornaments like rings, kohl..may be seen by non-Mahrams but things like bracelets, leg-lace, necklace, or earrings must not be displayed except to Mahrams…”
The same verse continues:
”…and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the private aspects of a woman. ” [Surat an-Noor,24:31]
Our religion is so practical. If Allah SWT forbids us from something then He SWT immediately provides a halal alternative.
…but most people know not.
Please keep it halal sisters! What we do is not right. Fear Allah SWT. Let not that make-up you use on your face become a source of Fire in Jahanam on Youm al Qiyamah. It’s a serious matter. Since 99.9% of the sisters don’t wear Niqaab, then please control your self when you stand in front of the mirror. Be thankful to Allah SWT that He SWT has provided alternatives for us in this Shariah. Use them inshaa’Allah but fearing Allah SWT in permissible matters is much better for all of us. Let’s not chase fatwas…let’s have Taqwa!
Alhamdolilah for His Mercy.
And Allah SWT knows best.
