“The reason why I don’t want him to do that is because when we praise ourselves then people become attached to personalities and they don’t become attached to knowledge, to the Quraan and the Sunnah. And when the scholar dies, people think that knowledge has finished because they are attached to one person and not the knowledge itself. And what we have to train ourselves to do is to train ourselves to be attached to the knowledge and not the people even though we love them, respect them, follow them, and study from them. But our attachment isn’t specifically to individuals. But rather we attach ourselves to those individuals because of the knowledge they possess, because of what Allah azzawajall has blessed them with in terms of knowledge.”
[Sh. Ahsan Hanif on Shaykh Ibn Baaz(R) not liking to be praised]
Note:I had started compiling weblinks of free books/lectures in the order Sh. Bakr Aboo Zayd has mentioned that we have to deal with each in Science of Islam. I’m still in the process but inshaa’Allah once that’s done, you’ll see it as a new page.
