بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
“And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the town; and there was under it a treasure belonging to them; and their father was a righteous man, and your Lord intended that they should attain their age of full strength and take out their treasure as a mercy from your Lord. And I did them not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of those (things) over which you could not hold patience.” (82)
From Tafseer ibn Katheer:
وَكَانَ أَبُوهُمَا صَـلِحاً
(their father was a righteous man)
indicates that a righteous person’s offspring will be taken care of, and that the blessing of his worship will extend to them in this world and in the Hereafter. This will occur through his intercession for them, as well as their status being raised to the highest levels of Paradise, so that he may find joy in them. This was stated in the Qur’an and reported in the Sunnah.
Sa`id bin Jubayr narrated from Ibn `Abbas:
“They were taken care of because their father was a righteous man, although it is not stated that they themselves were righteous.”
I always found this ayah so beautiful. I just can’t express its beauty.
We usually hear that a righteous child is a source of goodness for his/her parents. But we hardly hear that the righteousness of a parent (father in this case) has any effect on the children’s materialistic fate even long after the parent is gone. Parents worry about their children’s well-being even before their children come into this world and all their lives they strive hard to make ends meet for their children. It is amazing how Allah SWT gives the orphans in the ayah that special attention after their father is gone because it is usually the orphans who are neglected in our societies. In this ayah, it is interesting that He SWT specifically mentions, ‘…and their father was a righteous man’, as if it is some sort of an explanation for the orphans’ eligibility for that Mercy. SubhanAllah, Allah SWT provides for them in a most interesting way by providing for a means which is not usual…in the father’s most weakest time, i.e. in his absence upon his death! Allahu Akbar!
Allah SWT always has special mercy stored for His righteous slaves and not only for them but those who are dependent on them. He SWT is not only the Provider of what you need but also Provider of the means itself. So hold onto piety, as you hope for Akhira, He SWT will not leave you empty-handed in this dunia in your weakest times. Success of dunia and Akhira is granted to righteous individuals so always choose righteous companions for piety is contagious and its benefits start in this dunia itself and are not limited to oneself but extend to one’s dependents and loved ones whether or not you’re alive. And Allah SWT knows best.
May Allah SWT make us all from the Saaliheen and so may Allah SWT make us a means of benefit for our loved ones in this dunia and Akhira. May Allah SWT provide only Halal for our fathers, husbands, brothers, and all the Muslim men and may He SWT put barakah in their lives and efforts through piety…and please make us not deterrents of khayr in their lives nor burden on them.
