Quotes from Sh. Kamal el Mekki’s Brave Talk

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

(To the feminists)”Who said your role model is today’s man?”

‎”The easiest way to bully someone into submission is by re-evaluating how they think about themselves. You can’t bully someone who has ‘Izzah(God-given dignity) . And ‘Izzah only stems from a strong relationship with Allah SWT.”

“Allah SWT has sent me to guide you and you’re beating me into submission: asking me to apologize and saying that your way is better than my (Allah’s) way?”

‎”There’s extreme cowardice ripping our community apart.”

“Upon Ibn Taimiyyah (R)’s death, a priest shed tears too! Ibn Taimiyyah (R) wrote some greatest refutations against Christianity which destroyed its validity. If anything, his death should’ve been the happiest day of priest’s life. However, upon being asked about his reason for crying, he exclaimed: ‘All the good he used to do is not going to be done anymore!” A Muslim’s khayr (goodness) affects everyone. He contributes and fixes things.”

“Malcolm X has said that if we’re not acceptable to ourselves then how can we hope to be acceptable to others?”

“How can we correct our situation? By stopping ourselves from oppressing each other.”

“If you show the bully that the technique’s working, they keep doing it.  Narrations mention Abu Lahab following Rasulalah salalahu ‘alayhi wasalam into market place while he gave Dawah telling the same people he gave Dawah to that he salalahu ‘alayhi wasalam is a liar, a mad man; while it was the same man who knew the Prophet was a truthful man! Not once do the narrations mention Rasulalah wasting his energy by turning around and responding to Abu Lahab. Show them minimal reaction and walk away with dignity. That doesn’t mean we mustn’t respond. There’s a time for everything.

– Sh. Kamal el Mekki at OUC, May 2012 in his most courageous and inspirational talk. May Allah SWT protect the truthful with a special protection in this dunia and Akhira. Ameen! There’s lots more I could add but subhanAllah you can’t do their spoken words justice. Your respect for those who speak the truth with bravery increases million-fold especially when everybody’s brushing the reality under the carpet.
